The estate is located 6km (4 miles ) north from Sancerre, in Sury-en-Vaux.It used to be a typical local farm with cattle breeding and mixed farming. In 1975, Paul Doucet and his elder brother decided to dedicate it to the vitical activity. At that time, they had barely 5ha (12 acres) but quickly reached 9 ha (22 acres) in the 80’s.
In 1995, both Paul and his brother retired and Paul’s son, Patrick, took the head of the estate, with the precious help of his mother, Jacqueline. They kept on extending the vineyard. These days, the Domaine Doucet counts 12 ha (30 acres) : 87 % of Sauvignon to produce the Sancerre white, 13% of Pinot Noir, to produce the Sancerre red and rosé.
The plots are located on the villages of Ste Gemme en Sancerrois and Sury-en-Vaux, on 2 different types of soil : the Caillottes (chalky) and the Terres Blanches (clayey).
10 years ago, Patrick decided to manage his vineyard in an integrated way, which means reducing chemical herbicides and treatments, working soils as much as possible, bringing the right amount of manure or fertilizer in each plot, all these steps always being led in close collaboration with the many oenologists and technicians “in the fields”, and above all, according to the weather…
