Château Pontet-Barrail

Cru Bourgeois is always a step up in quality in the Médoc and this lovely mellow claret is from a family that has been awarded this status since 1932. Most recently in 2011, the family was over the moon to win the ‘Coupe des Crus Bourgeois’. Yves Bibey founded the family’s first vineyard in 1932, establishing Château Labadie, and later Château Pontet Barrail. They both lie in Bégadan in the Médoc, Cru Bourgeois estates, grapes of which used to supply the local co-op. In 1988, Yves and his wife Adelaide decided to make the wine themselves and, in 1999, were joined by their son Jérôme, now the winemaker. Aged a year in barrel, this is finely structured, mellow claret. Stand upright in case of sediment and enjoy with simple roast meats.
