Château Canteloup is located in the heart of the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, in the commune of Fours, 6km from Blaye.
With a surface area of 24 hectares spread over six communes, the vineyard, planted on agilo-calcareous soil, is composed of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet-Sauvignon (10%).
Vinification
After mechanical harvesting, the grapes are sorted before vatting. The duration of the vatting process is approximately 4 to 5 weeks depending on the vintage.
The wine is decanted naturally before being bottled 18 to 20 months after the harvest, of which approximately 25% is aged in oak barrels.
History
1962: Michel Vezain created the château’s vineyard on a surface of 5 hectares. Once harvested, the grapes are sent to the cooperative for vinification.
1982: The vineyard extends to 12 hectares.
1984: Inspired by the name of the locality where the head office is located, the name Château Canteloup is born.
1986 : Eric Vezain, Michel’s son, becomes the owner and joins his father in partnership. The vineyard reaches its current size of 25 hectares.
1988 : Eric takes over the running of the estate.
1992 : Construction of the cellar, which includes a vat room and a barrel room.
